My Own Sacred Grove

I had the opportunity to arrange this song for a dear friend of mine Julie Keyser.

I think of a farm boy barely fourteen
who humbly gave a prayer in a sacred grove of trees
I too have a question I'm down on my knees
So I find a place quiet and alone to feel his answers
in my own sacred grove
In my sacred grove He is listening
He blesses me with love and peace
In my sacred grove Hope is born
as I humbly pray on bended knee knee

Joseph felt the darkness before the light
and I too need deliverance from the darkness in my life
I seek direction, the Lord as my guide
So I find a place quiet and alone to feel his answers
in my own sacred grove
In my sacred grove He is listening
He blesses me with love and peace
In my sacred grove Hope is born
as I humbly pray on bended knee knee

Oh I know that my redeemer lives!
I know He truly cares for me.
For He opened up the windows of heavens glory
when a young boy prayed in a grove of trees.
In the sacred grove Joseph listened
as the father and the son appeared.
In the sacred grove hope was born
And the gospel light for all revealed

Oh I know He truly listens
As I pray in my own sacred grove

I asked a couple of the sisters in our ward RS to sing this for our first indoor activity in a year (masked, and seated 4-6 feet apart). It was for our RS Birthday celebration. We used the theme "My Own Sacred Grove", and began with this song. It was followed by a short inspirational talk (7-8 minutes) on the theme. We had spent the previous 2-3 weeks sharing invitations for the RS sisters to sign up for a painting class after this short program, to paint their own Sacred Grove. We had learned that a sister who had moved into our ward during COVID loved to do crafts and paint, and she graciously agreed to teach the class with an easel and larger canvas at the front. We were amazed that 37 women signed up! Our activities committee purchased the supplies for 38 paint kits, including 2-oz paint cups that they filled with the six needed colors of acrylic paint, and had 38 individual paint kits prepared for each sister -- 8x10 canvas, two brushes, 6 cups of paint, a cup of water to dip brushes in, and a few paper towels. With Easter coming soon, we used spring colors of inexpensive plastic tablecloths, and had a little pile of salt water taffy and a small water bottle at each spot for Covid19-safe refreshments. We had also set up a Zoom link for those that wanted to just tune in for the program, and delivered a few paint kits to those who felt more comfortable painting from home, with the camera focused on the instructor's canvas for that portion of the evening. It was a tremendous success, with the sisters laughing and commenting to each other as they "tried" their hand at painting. A few had done paint classes before, or enjoyed doing it on their own, but for many it was their first attempt. It was kept simple, and it was so fun to see how each was unique. This song set the tone for the whole evening. Thank you!!" ~ Sandy Cook
