Do You Hear the Refugees

In 2016, I was encouraged to do something to help the Refugees. At the time, I was in the middle of getting divorced, dealing with a custody battle for my kids and receiving financial assistance for my food. It didn't seem like there was anything I could do that could help.

A friend mentioned that I could write a song for the refugees that might help with the refugee effort. It didn't seem like much, but I wrote this song, "Do you hear the refugees?" I'm only now finally getting around to sharing it.

Last year, I also searched for other ways I could help. I found the "Women of the World" organization, and had the amazing opportunity of helping a refugee women learn how to read and to be her friend. it was a great joy to read Dr. Seuss books with her, and see her get so excited about what she was being able to do in her life. It truly was a great privilege.

There are actually a lot of ways that you can help refugees that don't necessarily involve giving financial assistance (though I'm sure that's a very welcome way to help as well!)

I hope as you watch this video, and listen to the words, it will inspire you to know how you can help.

Do you hear the refugees?
Do you hear their call
Do you hear their pleas?
They need food and shelter from the storm
A place to live and keep them warm
God asks us to bless the refugees
To hear their calls and help them in their need
We'll be blessed for efforts that we show
At the final hour He will let us know

When I was hungry Ye gave me meat
When I was thirsty You gave me drink
I was a stranger, Ye took me in
Naked ye clothed me, looked past my sin
When I was sick ye visited me
When I was prisoned, Ye came to me
And inasmuch as ye have done it to the least of these
Ye have done it unto me

On that day God will divide His sheep
looking to the right, He'll say to these I'll keep
Inherit now the kingdom that's for you
Father blesses you for all you do

When I was hungry Ye gave me meat
When I was thirsty You gave me drink
I was a stranger, Ye took me in
Naked ye clothed me, looked past my sin
When I was sick ye visited me
When I was prisoned, Ye came to me
And inasmuch as ye have done it to the least of these
Ye have done it unto me

Ye have done it unto me
